Coffee's Saturday Football Thread (Week 3)
Coffee is back next week, having turned down a lucrative offer to cover the Saudi league. The pull of Westhamonline was just too strong.

After last week, Chelsea were glad to meet a soft touch in Luton, a team that will be in the bottom 3 at the season end.

*Saturday

Bournemouth v Spurs (12:30)

Spurs have started better, but maybe flattered to deceived. Keeping Madison fit will be crucial. Bournemouth are adjusting to a new manager and new system. Factor in the early kick out, I anticipate a DRAW.

Arsenal v Fulham (15:00)

Arsenal have got results without overly impressing. Fulham look a bit blunt without Mitrovic. A narrow HOME WIN

Brentford v Crystal Palace (15:00)

Brentford have made light of the loss of Toney. Palace are dogged but hardly free scoring. Another narrow HOME WIN.

Everton v Wolves (15:00)

Not a game I would pay to watch. Everton are dire. Wolves are a bit better but goal shy. Wolves have more talent and should find a way to create a moment to unlock the Dyche long ball game. AWAY WIN

Man Utd v Notts Forest (15:00)

An underwhelming season start. The Norwich scarf wearing brigade are uneasy. 10Hag sounding a little less self-assured. Forest still seem to be a team that relies on home form for points to survive. Man Utd to lift it enough and with the help of VAR if needed, all will be roosy in the red garden by 5pm. HOME WIN

Brighton v West Ham (17:30)

This is an interesting clash between a young progressive manager and one of the games dinosaurs.

The heart and head are confusing my thoughts. Surely, they have been weakened by players out. We have used the Rice money well, although some are not ready for action. Are we going to surprise them? or maybe young Evan Ferguson will show us the importance of a proper striker and trusting in youth. They have been free scoring and a joy to watch. Moyes’s wet dream, will be a 0-0.

Suddenly, I am feeling less confident. Let’s go with the head and hope I am wrong. HOME WIN.

*Sunday

Burnley v Aston Villa (14:00)

I doubt I will watch. Villa just back from a game in the massive Europa Conference League. Watkins & Co to have more fire power. AWAY WIN.

Sheff Utd v Man City (14:00)

Sheff Utd are pointless, in every sense. That won’t change today. A handsome away win. Not much else to say. AWAY WIN

Newcastle v Liverpool (16:00)

This could be a decent game. Challengers to the top two. Newcastle on an upward curve, Liverpool a bit battered and trying to re-invent themselves. Expect goals form both sides. Maybe one for the fence. DRAW

A £2 accum returns £2,300. Dream on.

Some really interesting games this weekend.

Everton v Wolves
Newcastle v Liverpool

Are the interesting ones.
I think forest might give Man U a few problems too.

At the in-laws for a family lunch thing today, spurs losing would be fantastic.

I think there's a few more Hammers in Hoddesdon than when I lived there, then you probably could have counted them on the fingers of your hands.

Enjoyed listening to the Bournemouth owner just now. Yes he’s a yank but clearly done his homework as to what they want their club to be and how they aim to get there. Talking about pressing and being aggressive where they can. Bringing in the manager to try and do it and subsequently the players.

Was also watching mission to Burnley the other night. (Mainly a horrible vanity project by/about the owners) but Kompany was saying some interesting things when they were talking about players and tactics. Said he got them to a point where they had six distinct ways of pressing and could shift imperceptibly from one to another multiple times during the game, and how he had the players in his squad to change formation and tactics at any point. Made me cringe when I compare it to one single predictable gameplan and way of playing that we have.

Hope they beat ‘Ange’ and those spurs cunts today.

‘Hope they beat ‘Ange’ and those spurs cunts today.’

By that I mean Bournemouth rather than Burnley.

EL - Yea I saw it, it's true Moyes is completely out of his depth at the top level now. Also saw something on the Brighton coach and his attention to detail is incredible to the point where if a player is even one yard out of his position on the pitch he loses his shit, it's just completely another level, there are some very clever people coaching today and they work 24 x 7.

All that said, I have a feeling that the new B'mouth gaffer might struggle, not really based on anything though, he does seem a little too nice though.

Re: Coffee's Saturday Football Thread (Week 3)
Agree. There is clearly a newer breed of coach who think about the game in a different and much more dynamic/agile fashion, and a new breed of owner who is willing to embrace that.

By contrast (and I know it’s been m mentioned countless times) it feels like we have a dying breed of owner and manager who are just stuck in the past somewhat. Markedly rigid and conservative in terms of their ideas. At least with player recruitment we seem to have taken a step forward. Weird as it seems, I was encouraged to see Brighton tried to get Kudus earlier this summer.

Could be right about the Bournemouth guy and it will be a tough ask to do well especially trying to play in a brave fashion, but at least they are going to go out swinging. I loved that O’Neill decided attack was the best form of defence to drag them out of trouble last season too.

I should have added fearlessness. That’s how all these coaches are approaching things. Looking to impose themselves and a way of playing on the opposition and not worry about what they might do, where we play entirely in a fearful and reactive way, spending all our time worrying about what the opposition want to do.

Great goal from Spurs. Shame Maddison went to those cunts.

Cringe inducing ‘Ange’ and spurs love in on TNT sports today as well. Bit disrespectful to Bournemouth really.

Spuds have done what we couldn't against a joke outfit. Did they sit back on their one goal lead?

Re: Coffee's Saturday Football Thread (Week 3)
Think they’ve got a decent manager there, I would have certainly taken him when we were tenuously linked, and all without golden bollocks. Still Maddison is a very good signing, but it’s early days.

Read this morning that Mason Terry from our FA youth cup winning team has joined Concorde Rangers on loan

Concorde are away at Hastings today so as it's 200 metres from my house I got off my arse to pop along

Good start

Hastings match announcer, sounds about 85, called him Terry Mason !!!
